MARCELLI$ in the Summer
MARCELLI$ is a young emcee born & raised in Chicago. His new tape SUMMER CHERRIES dropped June 20th and we got together to take some pictures and discuss.
Emulsion: Keeping with the theme... how’s your summer?
It's been great. My tape SUMMER CHERRIES came out in June and it’s just been working on that and promoting it. Been trying to keep this ball rolling to see what I can come up with. I have a couple videos coming out too, but yeah it’s all tied into all music. No vacation, nothing else right now, just music. Grinding.
Emulsion: You're from Chicago?
Yeah born and raised. I think I was born in UIC hospital or something. Now I live up north.
Emulsion: This is your first tape?
Yeah. I released it June 20th.
Emulsion: How long were you working on it?
In total it's been a year and a half I guess. I’ve been making music since the 10th grade.
Emulsion: That makes you how old?
Sixteen.
Emulsion: You’re sixteen?
I look like a pretty mature sixteen year old that’s for sure. Haha nah… I started making music when I was sixteen and I’m about to be twenty one next week. So almost five years.
Emulsion: Happy birthday. any plans?
I’m gonna black out, you best believe that. I have a show the night before! So I’ll be doing that and then just hanging with my family.
But really my goal right now is to honestly do as many shows meet as many people and getting as much exposure as possible. I’m excited about this tape because before when people asked me about my music I could point them to something or give them something but it wasn't the same. Now with SUMMER CHERRIES I can just give them one of these and it’s more complete.
Emulsion: It's a cool design.
You to make a good first impression!
Emulsion: How long did it take?
Probably about a year and a half from start to finish. I could have done it quicker, probably recorded it all in six months you know but there’s this money thing so… the money took about a year and a half.
Emulsion: Did you have a producer?
No. The production was done by this guy I worked with online named Scientific. I’d love to meet him because he’s crazy awesome, but I was using a lot of his stuff. I know a couple producers who helped on tracks and then the features, but Scientific produced most of the tracks.
It’s hard! But you just get out there. like for instance I had a show two days ago and afterwards a lot of people were into the music and when you have that tape, it’s way easier. You want people to experience a full project. I don’t think I’m gonna focus on any more releases unit l I can build the following from SUMMER CHERRIES, but it’s been awesome to have something I can promote.
Emulsion: There's definitely good music here. But sounds like you need to have a little fun…
Fun? What’s that? No... I’m kidding. I’m a pretty simple dude but I’m just focused right now on seeing where the momentum goes. Every day. We all want 2017 as productive and efficient as possible right?
Emulsion: So what’s the trick to that?
That’s the thing, I have no idea. Until I figure that out all I plan to do is work as hard as possible until I find that niche. I guess I should ask people the best part of my music so I can focus in on that. But until I figure that out I just want to be the hardest worker and capitalize on that.
Well, you have to respect the hustle. Check out the self titled track from MARCELLI$'s new album and ride the summer vibes.
